Another video from Carrie?! Yes indeed. November has been all about videos! That’s largely because, as you already know if you’ve read my blog at all within the past couple of weeks, I’m participating in National Novel Writing Month! Making videos gives me a chance to ease up on all the write, write, writing.
In this video, I’m talking to you about a creative block I recently encountered (again). It’s something I thought I’d already dealt with, but you know how life lessons are… they tend to cycle back around, and we often have to relearn them from new angles.

This is such a great message. Thank you for reminding me of it! I had a BIG epiphany about this same thing about a year ago in regards to my dissertation. I had been writing it for this imaginary committee of academics somewhere in the sky and the thought of having to please these people just really dammed up the project. Then one day I had an epiphany: “Hey, this is MY dissertation and it can be about whatever I want it to be about!” Writing it became so much easier and enjoyable after that! Not only that, the dissertation was simply better. Thanks so much for this reminder as I move on into other creative projects!

Blocks, hmm I know well :D. It is said (Julia Cameron, Elizabeth Gilbert, …) that there is always a gift behind the block. The block is the limit of your confort zone and standing here, you have too choices : 1) too dificult to overcome 2) you push (gently!) yourself to understand it, dig into our true core and pass it.
In that perspective, I tell myself that I must be thankful to be visited by that feeling of block and welcome it with joy!
But it’s always a hard way to dig into our core, that can sometimes assimilate to selfishness, and selfishness doesn’t worth to be spread. But I can tell you it is never selfishness 🙂
No recipe ‘usable’ for everybody, but gently digging worth it!!
Oooh, you mentioned two of my favorite people (Julia Cameron and Elizabeth Gilbert). Option 2 is the one I always try to go with, certainly! 🙂
