Each tarot card is infused with symbols, philosophies and meanings – giving the cards a limitless intrigue. In the Life Lessons :: Tarot Card Meanings series, I will explore one card and some of the lessons it has to offer. Each card has a wide spectrum of meanings, so this post is not meant to be all inclusive!

Six of Wands Tarot Card Meanings Keywords:

  • Pride
  • Triumph
  • Confidence

Some people radiate unfettered confidence. Like the man on the Six of Wands, they hold their head up and present themselves to the world with assurance. They are forthcoming about their likes and dislikes. When asked what they do, they respond assertively. They have a fire inside.

I am not one of those people.

Yesterday I was grocery shopping, wearing a T-shirt with the words “SCREAM AND BE FREE” in large, red font. These are lyrics to a song by my favorite band, Hanson. The message of this song ties nicely in with the message of the Six of Wands – be bold, be sure of yourself, let go of what holds you back, yadda yadda.

I want to live by this message, yet when the cashier asked me about my shirt, I turned three shades of red. Oh my god, all she knows is ‘Mmmbop.’ I should have worn a different shirt, I thought. “Um…it’s a song by Hanson…yeah…a lot of people don’t know they still exist,” I said, staring at my shoes. She raised her eyebrows and nodded politely, I grabbed my bags and jetted out the door.

When do you send this vibe of uncertainty? Maybe you get squeamish when people ask you what you do, especially if your work is unconventional (ahem, tarot reading). Or maybe it’s when you’re asked about your relationship or hobbies or diet. We all have something that makes us falter.

I’ve noticed that other people can sense when we take on this bummer attitude. It’s almost like we attract the judgement we fear by radiating this energy.

On the other hand, people can also sense when we are able to radiate the confidence of the Six of Wands.

Self-assurance attracts support from others.

That’s why the man on the card has a crowd surrounding & supporting him. When you maintain a fiery conviction, others will sense and respond to your energy.

If you are naturally poised like the man on the Six of Wands tarot card, good on ya! Keep doing your sweet, sweet thang. Thank the Universe for bestowing you with a healthy dose of confidence.

If you are like me and are naturally mousy, let’s practice embodying the energy of this card. Don’t avoid the things that make you falter (note to self: wear the Hanson shirt more often). The only way to become more self-assured is to practice being self-assured. Speak clearly when someone questions you. Look them in the eye. Smile. Assume victory.

The worst thing that can happen? Someone rains on your parade. In that case? Stay on the horse and keep on riding with your head held high, darling. Scream and be free!
